Study will audit the work of arrhythmia coordinators

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) have awarded funding for three years to establish 24 coordinator posts in arrhythmia teams across NHS hospitals in England and Wales with the main aim of improving the delivery of services. The BHF Care & Education Research Group - based at the University of York’s Department of Health Sciences – will audit the work of these arrhythmia coordinators, over a two-year period, to measure their contribution. The research group will evaluate if primary care, secondary care and tertiary care services are working together; if all those who are part of the care pathway, including patients, families and carers, are receiving the education and training they need; if an effective holistic patient assessment process is in place; and if ongoing monitoring and auditing of the service is taking place. Hanif Ismail (Project Manager) will be conducting the quantitative audit.  He will be involved in providing half-day training sessions for arrhythmia coordinators in data collection techniques using a specialist online database designed by CCAD (central cardiac audit database). The project database is at present under development and until its completion an alternative Excel based system will be provided to facilitate baseline data collection. Hanif will be contacting all newly appointed  coordinators over the next few months and is looking forward to working with them and wishes them success in their roles. For further information please contact Hanif Ismail on 01904 321826 or email hi502@york.ac.uk.
