A Parliamentary Reception was held on 8th November at Westminster to celebrate the success of AAAW06. This was attended by doctors, nurses, patients and carers who worked so hard to raise awareness during the week in September. We were also pleased that many MPs and members from the DoH were there offering their support. Speeches were given by John Maples, MP for Stratford upon Avon, who hosted the event, Rosie Winterton, Minister of Health, Richard Schilling, AA Executive Committee Member and Cardiologist from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Mike Yates, Head of the Heart Programme, DoH and Trudie Lobban, Founder and Trustee ...More Details

The Royal College of Physicians this month launched a new guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of Atrial Fibrillation.  Dr Michael Rudolf, Consultant Physician and Chair of the Guideline Development Group said   "As a general physician working in a busy district general hospital, I see far too many patients with undiagnosed atrial fibrillation admitted with strokes, which could almost certainly have been prevented if only the cardiac arrythmia had been spotted and treated earlier.” ...More Details
